The Untrustworthy Person

The short story "The Land Lady" written by Roald Dahl, talks about an elegant, business man named Billy, this man is visiting the city of Bath and he has no place to stay, once he gets of the train station he asks for advice on where to stay, they recommend him the Bell and Dragon. He has been walking for hours and hours and he hasn't find the bell and dragon, so he settles in a B and B, the women seems kind at first but then things start to get a little weird, Billy find out that she preserves all of her pets, Billy walks to read the guest book and he only found 2 more names that were registered 3 years ago. This names sounded familiar for Billy, he remembered that something happened to both of them, and then he remembered that they had disappeared, the land lady served him a poisonous tea.

Roald Dahl uses strong imagery in all of his stories, with this the author helps us imagine how the Lady would be and how will she act.
He caught a whiff of a peculiar smell that seemed to
emanate directly from her person. It was not in the least
Unpleasant and it reminded him, well he wasn’t quite
Sure what it reminded him of. Pickled walnuts ?

Here by using the sense of smell of the character is causes the reader to imagine a pleasant smell.   A smell that the old lady will have. All of this shows us that by using imagery (senses) you get the reader’s attention and that shows that you are a better writer. Also to be a good writer you must be able to use characterization when needed:

"Such a very great pleasure when now and again I open the door and see someone standing there who is exactly right, like you”

This shows the reader that the main character Billy is a fine elegant and gentleman that appreciates what he has. So by using characterization you don’t need to directly explain to the reader what you are trying to say but you can do I by using the characters of the story.

So by reading this story I learned that sometimes there are people that you shouldn’t trust. I think this message is understood very clearly just by reading the story, and it’s such a strong message that we should learn because sometimes you might end up in trouble or with the wrong people. So this shows me that no matter what there are people that are not worthy of trusting.

The Plan

The last few chapters of the giver have been impressive. Jonas found out that releasing meant killing, he saw a video of his father releasing a twin baby, and he saw it all, how the little baby suffered. He couldn’t believe that he killed him, he didn’t want to go back home. Then the giver explained that his father didn’t know it was wrong because he didn’t have the knowledge. Jonas wanted to get out of this terrible community, so the giver told him that he could leave but that the Giver himself couldn’t. So Jonas decided that he was going to leave at midnight. Furthermore he found out that the Giver had a daughter, her name was Rosemary. So before in the book Jonas had discovered that before him there used to be a receiver that wasn’t strong enough to feel that pain and that she asked for release, her name was Rosemary. The Giver told Jonas that he watched the video of Rosemary realease and he couldnt believe what he saw.
inocent baby
"No one heard that little twin cry, either! No one but my father!" (152)

Jonas is seeing all the truth about his community, how fake it is. How do people do wrong things without even noticing, he is realizing all of this now. This shows me the importance of memory, in the book they are killing people without knowing that wrong they just dint know what they are doing, so memories are so important for every single person. Furthermore it doesn’t matter if the memories are happy or painful, pain, or pleasure, they help us in our daily lives. So this quote is telling me how really this community is.

Here is a link to learn more about the importance of memories http://www.lifestyletherapy.net/the-importance-of-memories/

So everything in the perspective of the community for Jonas is changing, he is realizing all of the bad things this community has. So I just can’t wait to see what happens when Jonas leaves his community, because all the memories are going to scape so the community is going to be in panic. Maybe because of the panic that the memories are going to create, every one will know the truth about the community.  I predict that once they know the truth they are going to get out or released. But I think no one is safe.

The new Memories

This week Jonas is getting a lot of new memories. Some of them are wonderful and awesome and some of them are just horrible. One day Jonas went to the Annex and saw that the Giver was sad. So Jonas asked the giver if he could help with getting rid of that memory, the giver nodded, so he started passing the memory of war. Jonas got terrified with this memory; he had felt too much pain. The giver felt bad about passing on this memory to him so he gave him the memory of Christmas to calm him down. So all of this chapters Jonas is reciving lots and lots of new memories, of all kind.  Also one really intersting event that happend in the giver was that Jonas started pasing on a memory to baby Gabe while gabe was sleeping, so know baby gabe has a memory that jonas pased him, and no one knows.

Why do they hidde everything from them?

"Forgive me," he said. (120)

This quote is making me think that Jonas must of had felt too much pain in the memory of warfare.  And by noticing this I can infer that they don’t know anything that happens in the world, that they are hiding everything from this community. So I think that the chief elder makes this community have a lack of wisdom and individuality. Because how could they have wisdom if they don’t know anything about the outside world. Also a lot of times you get wisdom by knowing bad things that happened or sometimes good things, but you are not going to have wisdom if toy don’t know anything of this. So in conclusion this makes me realize that the chief elder only teaches them what she thinks its right.

everything is the same

So in conclusion the more read this book the more realize that this community is based on fear and lies. Because they are hiding all he truth for the world to the citizens of this community, they don’t know that there is more to see besides what they already know. So all this community of FAKE! There is nothing real there is no pain no pleasure, they don’t have anything real. So I just want to find out what happens at the end of this book, because I am full of curiosity.

The Decision That Has Been Made

In the previous chapters we found out that Jonas is the receiver of memory, this means that he gets to have all the memory of how was the world before and how was everything before. So the training starts and he gets the memory of snow, this for him is a magical feeling, something he had never felt, it was pleasure then he starts getting a sun burn and he started feeling pain, just a little pain but it hurt for him because he had never felt that sun burn. So the training just keeps going through this chapters and I started noticing that they don’t know a lot of things that exist in this world. So everything continues until Jonas asks a question about that he sees something changed in Fiona’s hair, and the giver explained that he started seeing colors ( color red), and Jonas didn’t understood, so the giver tried to explain that there used to bee colors, well they are but they don’t see them anymore.

“Close your eyes and be still, now. I´m going to give you a memory of a rainbow.” (96)

This just makes me think that why are they hiding all of this from them. Also this quote is telling me that they don’t see color, and I think that don’t see color so there is no jealousy. Also that don’t feel sunburn because its pain, or snow because its pleasure. So they don’t feel pain or pleasure. Also this quote is just telling me that they are trying to make EVERYTHING “perfect”, they took everything away, even colors. This just keeps me thinking Why are they doing this to them? Why are they keeping all of this away from them?

So in conclusion this book is bringing do many troughs and questions about what is going to happen next, and what are they hiding from them? So I just want to find out everything in this book, I just want to find out the truth that are hiding and also what aren’t they seeing color and what are they hiding all this time? So this book up brings up a lot of suspense form because every time Jonas gest a memory everything changers, his perspective to see the world, everything changes.

A Choice to be Made

Recently in The Giver ,Jonas is growing up, and he is expirencing new stuff.Jonas is growing up, and he will very soon receive his assignment .Everything is starting to change in this community, because all the ceremonies are getting closer. Everything was going perfect with the ceremonies, starting with the birth and naming ceremony and so on until the ceremony of the twelves. So the Chief Elder started and she started giving the assignments to each one of the group members in order of the numbers they were given when they were born ( Jonas is 19).So they were on number 18 , and it was finally Jonas turn to go to the stage , and they skipped his number. Jonas was so confused and he just wanted to disappear. So at the end of the ceremony the chief elder said that she knew they thought they had made a mistake but she hadn’t. After that she called Jonas to the stage and said “Jonas was identified as a possible Receiver many years ago.” This means that he will be able to feel real pain and that he was someone with courage and bravery. So after this he realized that he was assigned to be Receiver the greatest and most important assignment of all.

"We have not been hasty this time, we could not afford another failure" (61)
So this makes me think that the leaders of the community are scared of failure and that they only want perfection. So I wonder that how is it possible for them to control everything that is going on in the community. How are they able to see and organize every single thing so it turns out perfect? And that just keeps me thinking about what is going to happen, is Jonas or someone going to find out the truth that they are hiding.  So this quote is telling me that they don’t want failure so they keep everything perfect. So I’m just ding to know what’s going to happen furthermore in this book.

So in conclusion this book brings a lot of mixed questions and thoughts to my mind because everything is weird in this community, this community has a lack of individuality. No one can fail, nothing can go wrong, because they have everything under control. So we need to start thinking about this world and start appreciating it because everything can change. We will never know what is going to happen in this world , we can’t predict the future.

Strict and Perfection

Previously in the Giver, Jonas is about to turn twelve, and he is about to face the biggest life changing event in his community; he is really nervious because in this ceremony he will know what he will do for the rest of his life. Everybody from the group of the elevens is having this ceremony which will assign them the job they will have for their future adult life. In Jonas comunity they have a lot of ceremonies, like the ceremony of nine in which you get to learn how to ride a bike, the ceremony of release and many more; but the most important ceremony of all is the ceremony of twelve. Everything must go right in this ceremony because this comunity is really interested in perfection. For example, if you brake one of the important rules in this comunity you will get released. Nobody knows what exsactly the word "release" means but you aren¨t allowed to say it. Also every body has to volunteer hours once a day so the elders( persons who pick your job when you grow up ) know what you are interested in. Futher more, this comunity bases alot of importance in family, for example, Lily, Jonas little sister said a joke about keeping a new born child his father was taking care of and her mother said that every family unit must only have a boy an a girl. So in conclusion this comunity has a lot of rules that can¨t be broken so they can be perfect.

"Almost every citizen in the comunity had dark eyes. His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group memebers and friends. But there were a few exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different lighter eyes" (20). What this makes me wonder is why is every body is sort of the same, for example why does everyone have the same or similar eye color besides the three people? Then I satart to wonder how is this place in which everyone has the same eye color, I also think about, f this is how it was before? All of this things makes me think how weird is this comunity getting as I read further more in this book. So in conclusion every weird event that is happening is making me wonder more and more about this comunity.

So finally this book is bringing to my mind alot of new ideas on how to see the world. Also it makes me realize that we need to apreciate what we have because one day we might be under tons and tons of rules we can¨t brake. Also, this makes me realize that life is meaning full no matter what and it doesn¨t matter who you are and what your job is you are always meaningful. so we need to start thinking and apreciating our lifes before we can¨t feel pain or pleasure. To summarize this book has brought a lot of new feelings and ideas into my mind.

The Giver

1.Jonas lives in a community of the future, where when he turns 12 years, he has to receive a thruth from the Giver.  Jonas is terrified about finding out his truth, because he knows there is no turning back. The day comes when the Giver gives Jonas his thruth, and it turns out to be that he will be the Receiver of Memory. He doesn´t know what this means, and he doesn´t know what he is supposed to be.

2.I think what she means about saying that, for all the children that are going to live in the future we trust them. I think she means that we need to trust the people of the future to do the right choice in life. So for me this quote means that we can´t do anything about what´s going to happen in the future because we aren´t going to be here by that time so we must have trust in the persons of the future.

3.I think that after Jonas receives the gift of beeing the Receiver of Memory he is going to find out about all the truth there is and he is going to try to do something about it. We don´t know what he is going to do but I infer that its going to cause a lot of trouble for the goevrment. i think that all the Dystopia is going to reveal so it probably started as a a good thing, but it´s going to end up in something really bad that we don´t know.

4.
